About this collection

This is a recording of a tribute celebration for Arthur E. Summerfield (1899-1972), Flint automile dealer, Republican National Committee Chairman during Eisenhower's first presidential campaign in 1952, and Postmaster General of the United States from 1952 to 1960.  It was held at the I.M.A. Auditorium on December 5, 1952.  Although incomplete, the twelve sides of the lacquer transcription discs, made by WFDF in Flint, document introductory remarks by Flint Journal editor and toastmaster, Michael Gorman; a performance of the University of Michigan Glee Club; further remarks by Michigan Republicans; a recorded message from President-Elect Dwight D. Eisenhower; further and remarks by Arthur Sarvis and, of course, by Arthur Summerfield himself.
